Sermon series: The Sermon on the Mount (Introduction)

The following posts will be from my sermon notes on a series that I had the privilege to preach at my church between 10/4/2014 and 10/6/2016 when our pastor was on vacation or scheduled to be away for other reasons.  In it I tried to tie the entire sermon found in Matthew chapters 5-7 together into one coherent line of thought.  As Jesus' "Manifesto of the King" it comes near the start of His public ministry and sets the tone for his message of about the salvation that He was bringing.

Rather than let the notes sit and rot on the computer I decided it would be better to share them on my mostly quiescent blog page.

Since Pastor Glen had already preached on the Beatitudes (the "blessed are" statements at the beginning of chapter 5) I elected to start right after those verses for the series that I would end up doing in pieces over the next two years.

As such, I hope that they will be a blessing to somebody.  It was a wonderful experience and I found it very interesting.  If anyone has a (friendly) note please let me know.  I have not had training in homiletics (I have tried) but I have had a few opportunities to preach and this was perhaps one of my more organized series.

I will probably be called on in the future to do a message here or there so if anyone has a suggestion for another passage to do a series on I am open to ideas.  Thanks.

Here are the sermons:
Part 1 - Jesus' view of scripture (5:17-20)
Part 2 - You've got it all wrong  (5:21-48)
Part 3 - All the world's a stage (6:1-18)
Part 4 - The secret of happiness (6:19-34)
Part 5 - The wrong standard    (7:1-6)
Part 6 - Run to the Lord (7:7-12)
Part 7 - No safety in numbers (7:13-20)
Part 8 - Self-deceived (7:21-29)

(Note: for a short time the audio to most of these will be available at sdgbc.org in the "Audio Ministry" section under "guest speakers")
